As she prepares to welcome her first child with her husband Chandler Powell, Bindi Irwin is reflecting on her late father Steve Irwin, saying that there’s no doubt he would have made the perfect grandpa.
The 22-year-old wildlife warrior opened up to Entertainment Tonight about how she thought Steve would be feeling about her baby girl if he were here with her today. “He would’ve been a good, good grandpa. Yeah, he really would’ve been,” she said. “I don’t think we would’ve ever seen our daughter. He would’ve just whisked her away into the zoo and it would’ve been perfect.”
She added that although her dad won’t physically be able to meet his granddaughter, she feels fortunate that she’ll be able to introduce her future daughter to Steve through the documentaries he filmed over his lifetime. Bindi’s mum Terri then chimed in to say that Steve would have been “over the moon”.
“I will say one thing for sure is you would never have to wonder what he would’ve worn during any of the milestones,” she said. “He would’ve worn khaki to the wedding, khaki to everything.”
Meanwhile, the youngest of the Irwin clan, Robert, said he is “insanely excited” for the newest addition to their family adding that he was completely ready to spoil his new niece and give her “whatever she wants”.
“I think it’s really special that as a family we get to remember him, honour him in absolutely everything that we do,” Robert also reflected. “And make sure that that legacy never, ever dies no matter what. And now with a new little wildlife warrior taking on the charge, he would just be insanely excited. I can’t even imagine. It’d be amazing!
“I am just so excited! I can’t wait to just throw her in with absolutely everything … She can have whatever she wants and do whatever she wants! It’s gonna be awesome.”
Bindi and Chandler announced their pregnancy back in August on Bindi’s Instagram page with a photo of the pair in their signature khaki outfits holding a matching baby-sized onesie in their hands.
The caption read: “Baby Wildlife Warrior due 2021. Chandler and I are proud to announce that we’re expecting! It’s an honour to share this special moment in our lives with you.
