Bunnings urgently recalls dangerous ‘exploding’ heater

Share:
As winter looms, heaters are coming out of cupboards.

Bunnings, the popular DIY and homewares store, has issued a recall notice for one of the heaters it sells, warning that it’s a “potential safety hazard”.

The store says that the Moretti 11 Fin Oil Column Heater Model MC35B2 may rupture when turned on, allowing the oil it contains to spray out.

“The oil may cause scalding and burns,” Bunnings says, adding that people who purchased the product should stop using it immediately and return it to their nearest Bunnings store for a full refund. You can check the location of your nearest Bunnings store on the Bunnings website.

You can identify whether you have one of the faulty Moretti heaters by checking the batch code or OLN code, the store explains. Affected heaters have Batch Code 12/16 and OLN 9532 or OLN 9539 on them, while other batches of the same model aren’t affected. The relevant numbers will be on the ratings label attached to the side of the heater’s front panel (below).

According to the recall notice, the Chinese-made heaters were sold across Australia this year.

Bunnings advisers customers to call Yale Prima, the supplier of the heaters, for more information on 1300 366 155 in Australia and 0800 111 727 in New Zealand.

Do you have one of these heaters? Have you returned it yet?
