After being silenced by cancer in 2022, Australian music legend John Farnham will be heard once again following the announcement that he will be narrating the audiobook version of his memoir, The Voice Inside.

In August 2022, Farnham underwent surgery and treatment for mouth cancer. After enduring multiple surgeries, eight weeks of radiation therapy, and overcoming several challenges, Farnham received the “all-clear” from doctors in July 2023 and was declared cancer-free.

Now, Farnham’s adoring fans have been treated to his voice for the first time since his diagnosis after publisher Hachette Australia released a sample of his narration, in which the beloved singer’s voice sounds strained following his health ordeal.

“I don’t enjoy talking about myself, I really don’t,” Farnham says.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m an egomaniac, but dredging up the past is just not something I’ve ever really enjoyed.

“I’ll try and share as much as I can, but that’s not easy because I’ve never really been that open. I guess there are reasons for that. Reasons for my reluctance.”

Fans have always relished any updates on Farnham’s well-being given that the beloved singer’s public appearances have been few and far between since his heath battle began.

In addition to hearing his voice for the first time, fans were recently offered their first glimpse of the singer after his son Rob shared a series of touching snapshots from his wedding.

Rob shared the photos on social media, showing Farnham looking well despite his recent health struggles.

“Shared the happiest moment with my favourite person in the universe and she said I do,” Rob wrote alongside the photos.

“Melissa, my life is forever better that you’re apart of it. You looked radiant, beautiful and elegant. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us and I’m truly honoured to have you by my side as my wife for life.”

Farnham is widely considered one of Australia’s most popular performers and is known for his highly successful 1986 album Whispering Jack which became the biggest-selling Australian album of all time by a local artist and held the top spot on the charts for 25 weeks. In the same year his solo single You’re the Voice also reached the number one spot.
