Tuckshop lady arms, bingo wings, sugar gliders – whatever you want to call them – can be super annoying but, unfortunately, they are a normal part of ageing.

In winter, it’s easy to camouflage this problematic area but when summertime rolls around, finding clothes to cover your upper arms can be challenging. The good news is there are plenty of ways to get around this. Here are five easy ways to disguise your arms if you’re feeling self-conscious this summer.

Wear elbow length sleeves

If you have flabby arms, elbow length sleeves are a great choice. This will keep you cool but still offer some cover up top. This sleeve length can also highlight your firm forearms and delicate wrists and draw the eye away from any loose skin on your upper arms.

Go sheer

Another way to disguise extra weight on the upper arms is to opt for a top with sheer sleeves. Sheer chiffon or semi-sheer linen fabrics breathe as well as camouflage so you can feel stylish and confident but most importantly comfortable in warm weather.

Choose off-the-shoulder tops

Off-the-shoulder tops are a must-have trend and a great way to keep cool and stylish in summer without showing off too much skin. They highlight the shoulders and not the arms, balancing your overall appearance. Off-the-shoulder tops can create a great relaxed look, or a dressier evening look just by adding a few simple accessories. Off-the-should dresses are also another great option!

Wear a light cardigan

Short-sleeved cardigans worn open are a fantastic summer staple. They can jazz up a pretty dress or add a pop of colour. If you’re not a fan of cardigans, try throwing a lightweight scarf or pashmina over your shoulders instead. A trendy fitted jacket also works well — just be sure it isn’t too hot!

Long-sleeved blouse

A lightweight cotton or linen long-sleeved blouse is another great option. It also gives your outfit a fun, sporty look. For something a little bit different, wear the sleeves rolled up with just one or two buttons done up over a singlet or dress.

Add a statement accessory

If all else fails, work some accessories, such as a colourful bangle or a bright watch, into your look. It’s amazing how a few statement accessories can draw attention to your wrists instead of your upper arms. Accessories can also jazz up a basic outfit or add personality and uniqueness to your style.

It’s important to remember you don’t have to avoid a style you love just because of unwanted upper arm fat!
