You’ll likely have most of the ingredients already in your kitchen pantry, and other others are cheap to buy from your local supermarket. All you’ll need is apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon, flour, filo pastry, Nuttelex and icing sugar.
First, preheat your oven, then heat the Nuttelex in a medium pot over medium heat. Add the diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice and cook for around 10 minutes, or until the apples have softened. Next, add the flour and mix the ingredients together until the liquid has absorbed and set aside to cool.
After the filling has been cooked, it’s time to move onto the pastry. Roll it out flat and brush lightly with Nuttelex before placing it in a loose-based cake tin, making sure to leave any excess hanging over the edge. Repeat this step, until there’s eight or nine layers of pastry in the tin. Then, fill with the apple mixture and fold the overhanging pastry up and over the top of the pie.
“Lightly brush the surface of another two filo sheets, gently scrunch each sheet and add to cover the top of your pie,” Katie wrote on her post. “Brush the top of your pie with any remaining Nuttelex.
And, after this your ready to place the pie into the oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crisp. If you like you can dust with some icing sugar and serve with a scoop of ice cream. And you’re done!
Katie’s post received plenty of comments, with many followers eager to try the recipe out themselves.
“Oh thank you for sharing! Can’t wait to make this!” @empowerme101 commented. While @calippokat wrote: “Looks do delish [sic] Katie. You’re a whizz with that filo pastry too.” And @k8tmac83 added: “Holey moley, that looks amazing!”
