Sometimes, the simplest desserts are the best. That is definitely true for these classic golden syrup dumplings which will bring back sweet childhood memories.
Made from the most basic of ingredients, you will likely already have everything you need to make this traditional English dessert in your pantry already. Once these are bubbling away, they will fill your house with the most delicious aroma and warmth.
Dumplings:
Sauce:
1. Preheat over to 200C.
2. To make sauce, in a medium saucepan over a low heat, stir together butter, brown sugar, golden syrup and water until sugar has dissolved. Bring to boil and then reduce to a simmer for around one minute.
3. For dumplings, sift flour into a bowl and rub in softened butter. Add golden syrup and milk and stir until combined.
4. Roll tablespoons of dumpling mixture into balls and place them in a medium baking dish. Cover with the sauce and bake, covered, turning dumplings halfway through for 20 minutes or until dumplings are puffed and golden.
5. Serve with cream or ice cream – or both!
