Memories of the 60s I’ll never forget

Share:
So many memories of the 1960s I will not forget.

Ahh… the 1960s. It was by far the best years I had growing up. I was just a kid during the ’60s and boy, was that an adventure!

Firstly, time after school was spent hanging out with friends, doing all sorts of fun things. I came home, changed, ate, called my friends from the front lawn and out they all came. We would spend all day exploring every corner of the neighbourhood and then only came home when the street lights came on. I remember swinging on a rope towards the river and letting go. On hindsight, that was such a dangerous thing to do but thankfully, we all survived!

Let’s not forget that time when the first time mankind set foot on the moon. I was sitting with mum and dad and my brother in front of our small TV. Big screens only came out years after that. We watched Neil Armstrong step on the moon.

Mum cried watching Armstrong create history. I was more interested in watching The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show during the ’60s. Remember that time John Lennon said “We’re more popular than Jesus now”? Wow, that definitely sparked a controversy.

Back then, we didn’t have these big cinemas so the drive-in movie was the highlight for me. Oh, yes, watching a movie bundled up on the roof of dad’s station wagon was everything.

Oh, so many memories I will never be able to forget like watching old shows with my mum and that time when The Beatles’ first record, “My Bonnie” with Tony Sheridan was released. It was so fun dancing to “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Twist and Shout,” “She Loves You,” “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” and “Please Please Me.”

The ’60s will always be the most special decade to me and I will cherish the wonderful memories for as long as I live.

What do you remember from the ’60s?
