Melania Trump’s maiden UN speech on anti-bullying has been overshadowed by her extravagant hot pink designer dress.
The first lady delivered an anti-bullying speech to world leaders on Wednesday, urging them to “come together for the good of our children because through them, our future will be defined.”
Trump wore a US$2952 fuschia dress with billowing sleeves by designer Delpozo for the occasion and it didn’t take long for people to critique the look.
Twitter users flooded their pages with memes and comments about the dress.
While many social media users were quick to laugh, others accused the critics of bullying the first lady at the exact time she was calling for an end to the cruel practice.
Trump’s speech also caused some to accuse her of hypocrisy, with many calling for her to start the anti-bullying campaign at home.
“Melania Trump talking about cyber bullying when her husband is the absolute worst offender is just Twilight Zone worthy,” Ricky Davila wrote on Twitter.
“Start with your husband,” wrote Ahmed Baba.
“Kindness, mindfulness, integrity, and leadership, which can only be taught be example,” the first lady said in her seven-minute speech, reports Politico.
She called for world leaders to come together to ensure no child would “ever feel hungry, stalked, frightened, terrorized, bullied, isolated or afraid, with nowhere to turn.
“Nothing could be more urgent nor worthy a cause than preparing future generations for the adulthood with true moral clarity and responsibility.
“We must teach each child the values of empathy and communication that are at the core of the kindness, mindfulness, integrity and leadership which can only be taught by example.”
