Finally! Beauty brands are listening to what over 60’s want

She’s been modelling for five decades now, but it’s her latest gig that has the world talking about Maye Musk.

The 69-year-old has just been signed as an ambassador for CoverGirl.

She’s had plenty of high-profile jobs before, including featuring on magazine covers and in campaigns for Target and Clinique but she’s now officially the oldest model CoverGirl has ever had for their campaigns. She remembers a time when she was the oldest model in her city when she was 28.

Taking to Twitter she said she was excited about the announcement, adding that beauty is for all ages.

There’s more to Musk than her modelling career. She is a dietician, nutritionist and wellness speaker, and has two science degrees. She’s also the mother of three, including business magnate Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, among other things. She has 10 grandkids.

In an article for New York Times Musk said it was the decision to stop dying her hair and embrace her grey colour that gave her modelling career a boost in her 60’s.

“I had brown hair for so long. I was always getting my roots done,” Maye Musk told NYT.  “When I turned 60, I decided to see what colour I am underneath. I started dyeing my hair a very light blond and then I let it grow out. I cut it very short.”

“And what happened? Suddenly I have all these editorials and bookings, and everybody is loving it.”

“Ageing has been good for me. You develop confidence, you’re able to handle the knocks a little easier. I model for my age. I’m not trying to hide it and say I’m 50. I’m so proud that I’m going be 70.”

Have you happily gone for grey or do you still keep up the dye?
