Designed by Charles Wright Architects, the property won the Eddie Oribin Award for Building of the Year given by the Australian Institute of Architects.

Port Douglas real estate agent Barbara Wolveridge told the Cairns Post the owner of the stylish abode is selling to move closer to her family.

“It’s an extraordinarily impressive home,’’ Ms Wolveridge said.

“It has a marvellous feel about it and that’s before you look out to see the view”.

The property boasts 180 degree views across Four Mile Beach, to Double Island and Mossman Gorge, and a 10m wet-edge swimming pool.

“It’s the best home I’ve ever seen in my life – it floats above the canopy,” she said.

The innovative design was conceived as a cantilevered living platform to make use of the site’s steep landscape. Masterful hydraulics and structural engineering mean the hilltop home will withstand cyclones (let’s hope so for $7.4 milliion).

For my money, I’d be hoping for a few more bedrooms – there are just two – one main bedroom and one guest bedroom. The rest of the house is the lounge, dining room and outdoor living and entertaining.

If you don’t want extra bedrooms when the grandkids come to visit, this could be the perfect tree house for you.

Let’s not forget the 10 metre wet-edge swimming pool and the suspended sun bed on the balcony.
