For many Australians, creativity isn’t just about paint and pottery — it’s about finding confidence, connection, and purpose. That’s the idea behind Industrial Creations, a new Brisbane-based program helping people of all abilities tap into their creative side.
Run by Your Enabled Services (YES), the initiative offers NDIS participants the chance to learn new skills, build friendships, and explore hands-on crafts in a relaxed, supportive environment.
From woodwork to craft projects, each session encourages participants to express themselves in ways that boost both independence and self-esteem. What makes it even more rewarding is that items created during the program can be sold locally or online, with proceeds (after materials) returned to the makers themselves.
“It’s not about being good at art,” says Leisa Sheffield, CEO of Your Enabled Services.
“It’s about building skills that foster independence.”
Leisa says she’s seen shy and reserved people come out of their shells through creativity.
“The real magic is in watching confidence grow and friendships bloom,” she adds.
The initiative was created after YES noticed how many people with disabilities were missing out on creative opportunities that could boost wellbeing. Their goal was simple: to create an inclusive, flexible space where everyone can feel valued and supported — regardless of background or ability.
Workshops are led by mentors and trained support staff who focus on accessibility and emotional safety. Each session is tailored to participants’ needs, ensuring everyone can take part in a way that feels comfortable.
The program is open to all NDIS participants, and funding is typically available under capacity building or core supports. YES staff can assist families and support coordinators with navigating the process.
