No matter what the occasion, dips are an essential part of any sharing platter, whether it’s a chunky guacamole paired with nachos, or smooth and tasty hummus with carrot sticks and celery. And now, a leading consumer group has ranked a range of brands – all of which are available in supermarkets – to crown Australia’s best food dip.
Canstar Blue asked 1,500 Aussie shoppers to rate food dips they had bought in the past 30 days on the likes of taste, texture, variety and price. The brands which received at least 30 responses were then ranked from best to worst, and, perhaps unsurprisingly, it was Aldi’s offering which came out on top.
The cut-price retailer’s Aldi Deli Originals dips were voted the best by consumers, receiving five-star reviews almost across the board. The range offers a selection of flavours, from guacamole and hummus, to spicy pumpkin, tzatziki, and spinach. And, like most Aldi products, they’re also a lot cheaper than big name brands.
Aldi was closely followed by ZoOsh in second place, which is a subsidiary brand of Bega Foods. And third place went to Obela, which is renowned for its varied range of flavoured hummus – or, if you like the classic variety best, Obela sells a huge 1kg tub for just $9.

Last year’s winner Aldi Deli Originals earned five-star reviews across the board (almost), including for taste, value for money and overall satisfaction. However the brand got four stars for range variety.
ZoOsh received four-star reviews for taste, overall satisfaction and most other categories. The only exceptions were value for money and range variety, where it got three stars.
Obela came out on top for range variety and bagged another five-star review for taste. The brand, which was founded in 2011, also landed on four stars for overall satisfaction and most of the remaining categories, except value for money where it got three stars.
The brand may have bagged just three stars for value for money, but Chris’ Dips bumped up its score to a respectable four stars for overall satisfaction and in all other categories.
Yumi’s was voted best for taste, before ending on a four-star review for overall satisfaction and most of the remaining categories. It also got three stars for value for money.
According to Canstar, Black Swan received four stars in most of the categories, including taste and overall satisfaction. However it scored three stars for value for money.
Red Rock Deli was one of two brands which earned a five-star review for its range variety. However it ultimately landed on four stars for overall satisfaction and most other areas. The only exception was value for money, where it got three stars.
Ritz earned four-star ratings for taste and value for money, but bagged just three stars in every other category.
Coles earned a respectable four-star review for value for money, unlike many of the other offerings. It received three stars in the remaining categories though, including overall satisfaction.
Despite securing four-star ratings for taste, texture & consistency and value for money, Willow Farm ultimately finished on three stars everywhere else, including overall satisfaction.
Peckish rounded up the scores on a solid three stars across the board, including for taste, value for money and overall satisfaction.
