Today marks 14 years since Sunshine Coast teenager Daniel Morcombe was abducted and killed.

The youngster was snatched when he was waiting for a bus to get Christmas presents for his family back in 2003.

It’s an emotional day for the Morcombe family, given that this year’s sad anniversary means that Daniel has now been deceased for longer than he was alive.

Daniel’s parents, Denise and Bruce, dedicated years trying to solve the case and find out what happened to their beloved son.

Eventually Peter Brett Cowan was found guilty of abducting and murdering Daniel.

He’s now serving a life sentence for his crimes, but the Morcombes are still feeling the pain on this tough day.

Taking to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation Twitter page, the loving parents let their followers know they haven’t forgotten about Daniel after all these years.

“14 years ago today we lost our Daniel,” they wrote.

“This is longer than we shared with him, his life cut short at just 13 years and 353 days.”

They encouraged people to never let his memory die: “Please join us and hug his memory because he deserved better and had much to offer. Pease be with you Daniel.”

Their message attracted quite a few responses of people who wanted to pay their respects to Daniel on this tragic anniversary.

One person wrote: “The work you have done in the wake of this tragedy is remarkable. You both deserve true peace in your hearts.”

Another message read: “You’ve done so well in his honour. He is remembered.”

A third added: “Sending love to you and your beautiful family today. Daniel has a wonderful family. Daniel will never fade from our hearts.”
