Sip on this refreshing drink for a cooling, hydrating refresher.

With the sun still scorching around most parts of the country, it’s important to stay hydrated with plenty of water and plant-based foods.

While experts recommend drinking eight glasses of fluids, such as water, iced tea, coffee or juice per day some people still struggle to meet their daily requirements.

Naturopath Anthia Koullouros recommends trying a hydrating blend of natural ingredients to add a little more power to your water and create a delicious drink at the same time.

Try using olive leaf extract, traditionally used in western herbal medicine to support the immune system and relieve symptoms of coughs, colds, and flu, as well as lemon juice and zest to help boost vitamin C levels and peppermint, which is known to help cool the body.

Cooling olive, lemon, mint hydrating drink

Ingredients to make 1 litre jug

  • 15mls of olive leaf extract (try a peppermint-flavoured version)
  • 750mls of fresh, filtered water
  • 250mls of a fresh or dried peppermint herbal tea, cooled
  • 1 lemon zested and sliced
  • 1 bunch of fresh mint leaves

Method

1. Add all the ingredients to a 1 litre jug followed by the water and tea.
2. Stir and chill.

Drink 4 cups throughout the day to cool and hydrate.

*Vitamin supplements should not replace a balanced diet. Always read the label. Use only as directed. If symptoms persist consult your healthcare practitioner.
