She’s become one of the most loved faces on evening TV, both in the UK and Australia, but now The Chase star Anne Hegerty has hinted she could be ready to step away from her TV fame.

The Chaser, well known as ‘The Governess’ on both versions of the show, has revealed in an exclusive interview with the Daily Star that she often finds her work schedule “overwhelming”.

The 60-year-old admitted to the news outlet: “My schedule has gone bonkers and I find it overwhelming most of the time… Not a day goes by that I don’t think it would be cool to retire.”

However, she doesn’t regret her career at all and said the TV has helped add structure to her day to day life, something that has helped with her autism.

“Before The Chase came into my life I was very demoralised. I was a proofreader working from home, but because I’m autistic I found it difficult to get organised and so I was losing work,” she added.

Anne was recently branded an “inspiration” after appearing on UK reality TV show I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! where she opened up about her autism in the hopes of inspiring others to confidently speak about it.

Before entering the show, Anne had been open about her fears of going on a reality show due to her diagnosis – and admitted that she values her space, in an exclusive chat with Starts at 60.

“I can’t be around people too much,” she said. “So that could be a problem.”

She also appeared in a promo video for the show ahead of its launch and explained: “I feel I seem to have spent most of my life avoiding anything that might possibly resemble camping outdoors… Why am I even doing this?”

The TV star admitted that she thought she would annoy people.

“I’m sure I will annoy people immensely,” she added. “I think I’m capable of being deeply annoying… I’m kind of hoping this is going to be a bit of a learning curve.”
