Olivia Newton-John is set to make a personal announcement in an upcoming TV interview which is being teased as a “secret she refused to tell” – and it’s so emotional, it leaves her good friend Delta Goodrem in tears.

In a new teaser for her upcoming appearance on Channel 7’s Sunday Night later this week, Grease star Olivia, 69, appears emotional as she discusses her battle with cancer and the new “fight of her life” – set to be revealed on the show.

While Seven is keeping the secret under wraps, Aussie singer Delta is seen breaking down in tears on camera as she says: “When I look at her… I find it so hard because it’s quite personal actually.”

Sunday Night host Melissa Doyle reveals elsewhere that Olivia will be making a “very personal announcement”, before the show teases that she wants to “set the record straight while she still can”.

It’s unclear if the announcement will be to do with her ongoing battle with cancer at this stage.

“I’d be lying if I said I never go there,” Olivia is heard saying at one point, before adding on camera: “I wasn’t sure if I’d make it.”

Meanwhile, host Melissa introduces the segment as “the interview Olivia Newton-John knew she had to do”.

It comes after rumours began circulating that Newton-John was battling cancer for a third time, following the sudden cancellation of two upcoming appearances in Australia. However, a representative for the star publicly rubbished the claims.

The Hollywood star has fought cancer twice already – her most recent diagnosis just last year. She revealed that the breast cancer she was first diagnosed with in 1992 had spread to her sacrum – a bone at the base of her spine – in May 2017.

Sadly what was initially believed to be sciatica, was later found to be cancer that had metastasised to the sacrum.

Showing her fighting spirit and determination to live a long and healthy life, just months later in August, Olivia shared a cheery message with fans after completing a short course of photon radiation therapy and using natural wellness therapies.

“Being on this journey again has brought me closer to what every patient and their families are going through at the ONJ, and what we need to do to help support them,” she wrote.

“I am feeling good and enjoying total support from my family, friends and my loyal fans. I am totally confident that my new journey will have a positive success story to inspire others.”

The much-loved actress is known to have previously used medical marijuana to help her throughout treatment.

Olivia Newton-John will make her announcement as she appears on Channel 7’s Sunday Night on September 9 at 8pm.
