Following reports last week that Joni Mitchell was still unable to speak following a brain aneurism in March, we have some good news.
The legal guardian for the singer-songwriter has announced 71-year old Ms Mitchell is at home, is speaking well and making progress every day.
Leslie Morris, who is a friend of the singer of Big Yellow Taxi, released a public statement confirming that Ms Mitchell suffered an aneurism in March but that she was expected to make a full recovery.
“The truth is that Joni is speaking, and she’s speaking well,” Morris said in the statement. “She is not walking yet, but she will be in the near future as she is undergoing daily therapies”.
Last week, singer David Crosby, also a friend of Ms Mitchell, said she had taken a “terrible hit” and that she was unable to speak.
Joni Mitchell, who was one of the most popular voices of the “flower generation” has been recording and producing her own music for four decades and has experimented with a wide range of musical styles.
She officially retired from touring in 2007 and voiced her criticisms of the music industry, describing herself as a “painter derailed by circumstance”. She has since returned to visual art, her first creative outlet, although she does not show her works publicly.
Although she has not toured or given concerts, Ms Mitchell has appeared several times in recent years to speak on environmental issues.
The Canadian singer reportedly divides her time between Los Angeles and British Columbia.
As we wish her a speedy recovery, tell us, which is your favourite Joni Mitchell song?
