Today in 1966, the Monkees’ released their first ever single and it was a huge success!

It soared to number one on the charts and became a signature song. It was compared to the Beatles’ song, “Paperback Writer” for its similar composition and vocal structure.

It has been covered by big names including Michael Jackson, George Benson and Cassandra Wilson.
