Most people joke about growing older, and it seems this Hollywood star Hugh Jackman is no exception. The X-Men star turned 50 on Friday and used the occasion to poke fun at himself.

Taking to social media on Friday, the Australia actor shared a candid snap of himself taking a nap, and it’s a far cry from his usual Hollywood glamour shoots. In the photo, Hugh is sporting active wear, looking rather exhausted, with one hand resting on his French bulldog, Dali.

“When people tell you ‘you don’t look 50’ part of you believes it… until you see yourself sleeping,” he joked in the caption.

Fans were quick to laugh along and wished the action hero a very happy birthday. “Today is your day. Happy Birthday Mr. Wolverine,” one commentator wrote.

Others pointed out how great he still looks for 50, with one writing: “I hope I look half as good at 40 as you do at 50!” And a third wrote: “Amazing talent no matter your age.”

Despite turning his half century, the actor has kept up a healthy gym regime, regularly sharing images of himself working out with his 20 million Instagram followers.

The Aussie hunk is well-known for his long-running role as action hero Wolverine in the X-Men film series, and his roles in romantic drama Australia and most recently in The Greatest Showman.

Hugh will no doubt be celebrating his special birthday with his wife of 22 years Deborra-Lee Furness, 62, and their two children, Oscar and Ava.

The actors met on the set of the Australian drama Corelli in 1995 and have been going strong ever since.

Earlier this year, Hugh posted a touching tribute to his wife for their 22nd wedding anniversary. Taking to Instagram, he wrote: “I believe in life we need to see and truly be seen by the most important people in our lives. Deb, from day one, we had that. 22 years later… it only gets deeper. You and the kids are the greatest gift I will ever receive. I love you a gazillion times around the world.”
