There’s less than a month to go before new Elton John movie Rocketman hits cinemas and to mark the final countdown, the full video of actor Taron Egerton singing the star’s hit song has been released.
The incredible new video shows the actor recreating ‘Rocket Man’ in the recording studio while footage from the upcoming movie plays in the background, portraying Elton as a young child right through to performing at packed-out concerts around the world.
Seeing the full length video, Elton himself led a stream of praise from fans as he admitted he was “astonished” to see the result of all of Taron’s hard work.
“It was so important for the music to be sung by Taron. I wanted his interpretation of me, through the music. I’ve been astonished with the results,” he revealed on Twitter.
The video begins slowly, just as the original did, with Taron managing to capture Elton’s smooth tone throughout. From there, he flawlessly shows off his vocal range as he hits every high note perfectly.
Rocketman follows Elton’s life and career as he prepares to release his 1972 breakthrough album Honky Chateau, from the highs to the lows, and Taron, 29, appears to completely transform on screen – looking almost unrecognisable in full costume.
New footage in the video shows him in a variety of costumes, dancing on stage and showing off some of his signature moves in front of the crowd.
Fans have applauded Taron’s vocals, with one commenting on Twitter: “Absolutely fantastic! Can’t get enough of @TaronEgerton,” while another added: “Cant wait to see this movie.”
Meanwhile one fan simply wrote: “I AM SCREAMING.”
It’s the latest in a series of clips released ahead of the movie’s premiere and Paramount Pictures released a behind-the-scenes video showing Taron singing ‘Tiny Dancer’ in the recording studio in February too.
Director Dexter Fletcher appears in the clip and says on camera: “Taron’s actually singing in the film. And he’s so convincing. His voice is incredible.”
Fletcher also directed Queen movie Bohemian Rhapsody recently, but while lead actor Rami Malek’s voice was blended with recordings of lead star Freddie Mercury in the hit, Taron will sing all of the songs himself in Rocketman.
The film’s music producer Giles Martin reveals shortly after that he recalls Elton once saying: “I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone sing my songs better than Taron.”
Martin adds: “The great thing about Elton is that he wants Taron’s interpretations of his songs.”
“I don’t think there’s anyone in the world who could have played Elton,” he goes on. “I think it’s Taron’s role.”
