Barbra Streisand has taken aim at US president Donald Trump in her newly launched music video for song ‘Don’t Lie to Me’.

Released on Tuesday, just weeks after the single was showcased to the world, the video confirms suspicions that the song is directed squarely at the President of the United States.

While the criticising lyrics led many to believe the popular singer was highlighting her distaste for Trump through song, pictures strewn throughout the video make it 100 per cent clear.

The words, “How do you sleep when the world keeps turning?/All that we built has come undone” and “how do you sleep when the world is burning?” are matched with pictures of Trump, protests and the American flag.

While the song itself is quite emotional with further lyrics, “Why can’t you just tell me the truth?” And: “How can you win if we all lose?” the video paints a picture of how Barbra truly feels about the president and the actions he has taken throughout his first term.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, the 76-year-old expressed her concern for America and the world, saying the songs in her new album Walls represent what is happening in the country.

“One of the songs talks about the beacon of light, and ‘Lady Liberty’ talked about the danger in the sound of silence, when people don’t speak up, when people don’t vote,” she explained. “And now we have a leader who can’t be trusted. The way he pushed [Brett] Kavanaugh onto the Supreme Court to protect himself is unconscionable; we have a leader and now a Supreme Court justice who tells lies.”

Her video and song have been praised by many fans who called her brave for speaking out and sharing the message.

“Props to her for daring to speak out through her music and using all these images, not being scared or anything. No, she doesn’t fear making a direct statement through this song and video. She lets everybody face once more, who and what this song is about. What a brave woman,” one person wrote on the YouTube.

While a second said: “One word: longevity. She will be remembered as well as this song. Such a powerful message, and she did not hold back! Congratulations!”

And a third added: “OMG! What a beautiful and touching song. Made me cry the first time I heard it and saw this incredible video! All so true! Thank you, Barbra!”

The music legend regularly tweets her dislike for Trump, taking particular aim at his migration policies.

Meanwhile, sharing a link to her new single on Twitter recently, Streisand wrote: “Thrilled to announce that my new album WALLS is coming out Nov 2nd including a song I co-wrote, “Don’t Lie To Me,” which is out now. This collection of songs reflects what’s been on my mind lately, and I look forward to sharing that with you. #BarbraWalls.”

What do you think of Barbra Streisand’s newly released song and video? Do you agree with her or not?
