’80s soapie Dynasty gets a modern makeover

Share:
A popular television show form the 80's in being remade.

In its day Dynasty was compulsive viewing, especially after Joan Collins joined the cast.

Produced by Aaron Spelling, it was soapie heaven with the Carringtons and the Colbys, America’s wealthiest families, feuding over their control of the fortune and family, airing from 1981 to 1989.

And like the shoulder padded fashions infamous on the show, so too is Dynasty,  with news out this week it is making a comeback, after it was picked up for the 2017-18 season in the US.

New Zealand born actor Alan Dale who had a big career in Australia (The Young Doctors, Neighbours, The O.C.) features in the new show, alongside Grant Show (Melrose Place), Elizabeth Gillies, Nathalie Kelley, James Mackay , Sam Adegoke, Robert Christopher Riley and Rafael de la Fuente.

The series will be told through the perspective of Fallon Carrington (Gillies), daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington (Show), and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal (Kelley), a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class.

The reboot of the 1980s soap is in the hands of Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the creators of Gossip Girl.

Revenge writer Sallie Patrick is also part of the modern-day reboot, so we can expect the same amount of class and drama as the first series.
