Old-school aristocracy

Share:

It seems our Prime Minister believes “There is nothing like a dame”,  as he brings back the nation’s highest honour to the Order of Australia.

Tony Abbott doesn’t believe the current honours available to Australians are enough to acknowledge the achievements of some, such as the outgoing and incoming governor-generals.

Quentin Bryce and Peter Cosgrove will receive the titles of Dame and Knight respectively, and going forward, up to four will be created per year on recommendation of the PM to be approved by the Queen.

The Australian Republican Movement thinks it turns back the clock to British imperial times.

Others have welcomed the decision to bring back the titles, which will be bestowed upon recipients for pre-eminent achievement.

What do you think about the restoration of this honour? Have your say…
