Olympic champion turned radio presenter Susie O’Neill has bid an emotional farewell to Nova 106.9FM breakfast show listeners during her final broadcast.
O’Neill shocked listeners when she revealed her decision to resign from the popular Nova 106.9FM breakfast show on Friday, October 18, sharing with listeners, “with a very heavy heart,” that the decision was not an easy one.
On Friday, November 28, O’Neill took to the airwaves for her final breakfast show broadcast—but not her final appearance with the Nova Network. She revealed that while she is stepping away from the breakfast show, she will remain with the Nova Network as a guest presenter and will also join the Nova Podcast Network.
“It was such a hard decision to step away from the breakfast show and although my final day has been an emotional one, I’m really looking forward to starting this next chapter,” she told listeners.
“This new opportunity in 2025 will allow me to remain with my Nova family while pursuing other goals, including getting back to the grass roots of sport and involving myself in the wider community.
“To be able to step into this new role across broadcast and podcasting, where I can connect with a broader audience while still being part of the community that I love, is a fantastic opportunity. Nova has been there from the beginning of my radio career, so this feels like a natural next step. Watch this space!”
Alhough many were saddened by O’Neill’s farewell, countless others were quick to wish her well in her “next venture.”
“All the best in your new chapter. Look forward to the next story line in one of the most incredible person this country has seen,” one wrote.
“Going to miss you Suse.”
“I’m going to really miss listening to you! My mornings won’t be the same. Wishing you all the very best with your next venture!”
“Thanks for making our mornings so much better!!! We will miss you!!!!” commented another.
“All the best Susie. You will be missed.”
“Thank you for helping me start my day with laughter Suzie you are an awesome human and you will be missed. Thanks for being real . Wishing you all the best for the future.”
While listeners will no longer hear O’Neill in the morning, it was recently announced that comedian Nikki Osborne will be stepping in to take over hosting duties.
Osborne who has featured on Hughesy, We Have a Problem, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, and the 2024 season of Dancing with the Stars will join fellow hosts Ash Bradnam and David “Luttsy” Lutteral from Monday, January 20.
Osborne said she is looking forward to having “a good laugh” with listeners when she takes her place at the breakfast desk.
“I have big flippers to fill but I’m confident Brisbane will warm to my ways,” she said.
“Sure, I get in trouble a bit, but I’ve got two big brothers in Ash and Luttsy and I have no doubt they’ll steer me even further off course! I love Brisbane. I grew up here and I look forward to having a good laugh with our listeners in this amazing city.”
