As you would know, Jacqui Lambie isn’t afraid to speak to her mind – and she was certainly speaking her mind about the budget this morning.
During an appearance on Sunrise, Lambie made some strong comments about one budget measure in particular.
Speaking about the government’s plans to drug test welfare recipients, Lambie told Sunrise host Kochie she supported the measure.
But she then went on to say Parliament House ‘wasn’t drug-free’ either.
“You have to ask if its all being paid for taxpayers on welfare, how come politicians and public servants aren’t getting the same treatment and leading by example,” she said, stating she supported the introduction of drug-testing in Canberra.
“If you think it’s drug-free up here, you’re kidding yourself.”
Her fellow independent senator Derryn Hinch also expressed support for the drug testing of welfare recipients.
“If you’re gonna get on this piss or get stoned and you don’t turn up for your job interviews then you don’t deserve to get taxpayers’ money,” he said.
In response to Lambie’s comments about drug testing, Hinch shrugged his shoulders and said “it doesn’t phase me”.
