After Christmas and New Year, your oven is no doubt in need of a deep clean, with stenches and remnants of staples such as roast ham, pork crackling and pungent prawns no doubt still lingering long after the festive period.

Before you rush out and buy chemical cleaning products or reach for the white vinegar to whip up your own cleaning concoction though, you may already have one cheap and simple product in your kitchen cupboards that could do the trick.

An Australian mum sent the Internet into a frenzy this week after she revealed her simple hack for leaving your oven spotless and sparkling, even removing the most stubborn grease stains from the glass door, using just one simple Aldi product.

“So I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve probably only cleaned my oven twice in the nearly 3 years we’ve lived here and both times I’ve given up because I just couldn’t get the grime off!” the woman wrote on the ‘Mum’s Who Clean’ Facebook page.

She added: “I took the dishwashing tablet advice and here we are! Clean glimmering oven door!! It did take about half an hour, and some elbow grease, but it definitely works! I just used the plain old Aldi tablets and I used I think 4 of them. There was a particularly stubborn spot in the bottom corner so I found breaking some up using sharper parts of the tablet worked to get it up.”

The woman shared two images of her oven door showing the grime she was able to remove using just a damp cloth and dishwashing tablet, as well as a photograph taken afterwards which showed the sparkling clean glass door.

Revealing just how she achieved the impressive results, she added: “I literally just got the dishwashing tablet, dampened it under the tap for 2 seconds, I had a damp cloth at the ready that I did squish some water out of just to have some water on the glass which seemed to make it easier to scrub having that bit of moisture.

“I just scrubbed until the tablet wouldn’t do anymore then got a new one. It was incredibly simple and easy to do, just a bit of hard work.”

Hundreds of people commented on the post to say they couldn’t wait to try the hack for themselves. One person said: “Amazing!!! I’m doing this next time instead of harsh chemicals that choke me.”

Another wrote: “It looks amazing. Well done. It’s rewarding. Thanks for sharing. Always good to have options that actually work.”

While others shared their own go-to cleaning methods, such as bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice, Bar Keepers Friend and even denture cleaning tablets.
