Coles and Bi-Lo recall popular product over allergy concerns

Share:

Coles and Bi-Lo have today issued a recall of one of their popular vegetarian products after discovering it had traces of an ‘undeclared allergen’.

Supermarket giant Coles posted a notice on its website warning customers its Coles Brand Curried Pumpkin and Corn Burgers have been found to contain gluten — something they failed to declare on the package.

People who are allergic to gluten can suffer horrible side effects from consuming it, with headaches, stomach pains and cramps some of the most common reactions.

Coles says the burgers were sold in Queensland, New South Wales, ACT, Victoria and Tasmania and carry a best before date of November 2, 2016 and November 9, 2016.

It urges customers who may be affected to return the product for a full refund.

The recall notice issued on the Coles website.

Coles wrote on its website: “Coles is recalling Coles Brand Curried Pumpkin and Corn Burgers 250g (Best Before date of 02 NOV 2016 and 09 NOV 2016) due to the presence of an undeclared allergen, specifically gluten from wheat.

“Consumers who have a wheat or gluten allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if they consume the product.

“Customers can return the product to any Coles supermarket for a full refund, and any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.”

It has removed the burgers fromits online store with a note saying “temporarily unavailable”.

It’s just the latest recall for our big supermarkets this year with a number of reports about spiders, disease and allergens found in other products across the country.

Have you been affected by this recall? Have you ever had to return anything due to a recall?
