The loss of a family member is never easy and Studio 10’s Sarah Harris has taken to social media to pay tribute to her grandmother, who sadly passed away recently.
In a post on Instagram on Monday, the 39-year-old TV host announced the death of her “rockstar” 92-year-old grandmother, who she affectionately called “Baka”, and shared a series of photos. The first picture is a close-up selfie of the pair, which shows Sarah cuddling up to her gran, while the second and third show Baka playing with her two sons: Paul, five, and Harry, three, who Sarah shares with her husband of six years, Tom Ward.
“OOOOOHHHHHHHKAYYYYYY,” she captioned the post, making reference to a common saying her grandmother use to say. “Bye bye Baka. What a firecracker of a woman you were. 92. What a rockstar.”
Many of Sarah’s fans were quick to comment on the post and send their condolences, with one writing, “So sorry for your loss. RIP Baka.”
Another added, “‘Ohkay’. That’s exactly how [they] speak. Such beautiful photos. May she RIP.” While a third wrote, “Remember your precious memories.”
Another commenter called ‘Baka’ “an absolute legend”, adding, “Sending all my love!”
This isn’t the first time Sarah has made reference to her grandmother. In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald in June 2014, Sarah revealed her hard-working grandmother “was mixing concrete when she was pregnant”. The TV star told the publication her grandparents had migrated to Australia from Croatia nearly seven decades ago.
“They came to Australia by boat in the [’50s] and built their two-storey brick home by hand,” she said.
