Iconic ‘Eastenders’ and ‘Doctor Who’ actress, Ann Davies, dies age 87

Iconic Eastenders and Doctor Who actress, Ann Davies, has passed away on Tuesday, April 26, at age 87.

Davies’ long-time friend and agent announced her death via Twitter on Wednesday, April 27, revealing the talented actress would be dearly missed.

Sadly my lovely client of 34 years Ann Davies passed away yesterday,” Davies’ wrote.

“A superb actress with TV credits including #DoctorWho and #TheSculptress, Ann was devoted to her beloved late husband #RichardBriers and their daughters Lucy and Kate.

“She will be very much missed. #RIP Annie.”

Fans and friends took to the post to pay tribute to the late actress as they acknowledged Davies’ legacy and marriage to Richard Briers.

“Superstar in a legendary Dr Who adventure, and she’ll never be forgotten by the fans! Those episodes get rewatched a lot in my house. Much love to you all,” one fan wrote.

“Condolences to her family…Such sad news. She was great as Jenny in The Dalek Invasion of Earth,” another commented.

The well-known English actress was best known for her role as Jenny in Doctor Who and for her minor appearances in the English soap opera Eastenders (1985).

She was also known for her roles as Mrs Singleton in children’s television series Grange Hill (1978) and for her film roles in Peter’s Friends (1992), In the Bleak Midwinter (1995) and The Sculptress (1996).

Davies was happily married to her late husband Richard Briers who was best known for his role in the popular BBC sitcom The Good Life, which ran between 1975-1978.

The couple met at Liverpool Rep and married in 1956, remaining together until Brier’s death from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in 2013. The couple starred together in the radio adaption of the 1962 British comedy series Brothers in Law.
