Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Sunday, and the Wolverine actor penned a gushy tribute to his wife on Instagram, alongside five throwback photos from the pair’s 1996 wedding day, and let’s just say that the 65-year-old actress was really ahead of her time … what a wedding outfit!
Instead of opting for the usual wedding gown, Deborra-Lee stayed true to her quirky, fashionable self and wore a champagne-coloured bridal pantsuit for the memorable occasion. The satin pantsuit featured a plunging off-the-shoulder neckline and a skirt over the top, which added a dramatic flare to the ensemble.
Deborra-Lee finished off the outfit with a chocker necklace adorned with white pearls, and wore her hair pinned up in an elaborate design. It’s safe to say that the actress was definitely ahead of the wedding dress game with her style choice, as wedding pantsuits are only just now becoming popular among modern brides.
We’re also a big fan of Deborra-Lee’s large bouquet of flowers, which is in stark contrast to the more minimal bridal bouquets of the past.
Alongside the stunning wedding snaps, which also saw Hugh sport a fancy tuxedo, the Aussie actor wrote: “Being married to you Deb is as natural as breathing. From nearly the moment we met … I knew our destiny was to be together.”
Hugh went on to say that over the last 25 years, their “love has only grown deeper”. “The fun, excitement and adventure more exhilarating; the learning even greater. I’m forever grateful to share our love, our life — and, our family together. We’ve only just begun. Deb, I love you with all my heart!”
The showbiz couple met in 1995 on the set of Australian drama Corelli and tied the knot just one year later on April 11, 1996. Hugh and Deborra-Lee have two children together: Oscar, 20, and Ava, 15.
In 2018, the X-Men star shared their secret to their loving and lasting marriage. Speaking on the US Today show at the time, Hugh said it came down to supporting one another.
“Deb was in the business before me and made some rules,” he said. “We are not going to spend more than two weeks apart, and we are not going to work at the same time if we don’t have to financially. So, one of us is always there to support the other. And we have maintained that for — well, next month is 22 years.”
