The Vicar of Dibley star Dawn French has taken to Instagram to reveal she has tested positive for Covid-19.

French, 64, shared a photo of a positive lateral flow test on Monday, March 28 alongside the caption, “Oh… bollox”, expressing her dismay at the less than ideal health news. 

Fans and celebrities alike were quick to offer their messages of support and provide some much needed advice to French.

“Wishing you a speedy recovery xxxxxx,” Little Britain star Matt Lucas wrote.

English television presenter Jools Holland wished French a “speedy recovery.”

Several fans offered their support and the remedies that helped them cope with Covid-19.

“Get better soon. Fluids, rest and if ache then paracetamol. X,” one wrote.

“Sorry to hear that Dawn, we also tested positive, hope it treats you gently xx.”

“Get the throat lozenges in and paracetamol or lemsips, rest up and take care x x,” commented another.

It’s not the first time French has been personally impacted by the global pandemic, in December 2021 she told fellow comedian Rob Brydon on his podcast, Brydon &,  that she was unable to hug her husband and was forced to have limited contact with him given he is a front line worker.

“We were told that he could either move house and not live with us in the lockdown and live near work and not see us, or he could live with us but he had to be in a separate room at night and stuff like that, and we had to keep our distance for safety,” she said.

“This was when we were all very scared. Seems mad now, but anyway.”

French’s latest post is the second time this year she’s taken to social media to share unfortunate news, in January she paid tribute to her late Vicar of Dibley co-star Gary Waldhorn on her Instagram page. She shared a black and white photo of Waldhorn with a broken heart emoji.

Waldhorn, best known for playing Councillor David Horton in The Vicar of Dibley passed away on January 10, 2022,  aged 78.
