Warwick Davis, known for his roles in iconic franchises such as Star Wars and Harry Potter, is to be honoured with the BAFTA Fellowship at the BAFTA Film Awards.

The 54-year-old actor will receive the accolade, which recognises those who have made an outstanding contribution to film, games, or television, at the awards show on February 16.

Davis described the Fellowship as an “incredible honour”.

“The Fellowship, to me, embodies the spirit of inclusivity, creativity, and collaboration that BAFTA stands for. This recognition is not just about the body of work I’ve contributed but also about the people who’ve stood by me and the audiences who have made this journey worthwhile,” he said.

“I accept this Fellowship in honour of everyone living with dwarfism or any form of difference, reminding us that our uniqueness can be our greatest asset.

“I also want to acknowledge the wonderful colleagues and friends who’ve worked behind the scenes – costumers, make-up artists, camera crews – who quietly and tirelessly pour their hearts into every production. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this incredible honour.

“I look forward to continuing to champion fresh perspectives, advocate for better representation, and inspire the next generation of storytellers to dream big. Thank you, BAFTA, for believing in my journey.”

Sara Putt, the chair of BAFTA, praised Warwick as a “talented, much loved and truly inspiring figure”.

“From his iconic performances to his advocacy for greater inclusion and representation on and off-screen, Warwick has had a remarkable impact on cinema and been profoundly influential in fostering a more inclusive and caring society,” she said.

Davis shared a statement with the BBC, disclosing that Samantha passed away on March 24, 2024, leaving a profound void in his life and the lives of their family.

In his heartfelt statement, Warwick paid tribute to his “favourite human,” expressing the immeasurable impact Samantha had on his life.

“Her passing has left a huge hole in our lives as a family. I miss her hugs,” Warwick said.

“She was a unique character, always seeing the sunny side of life she had a wicked sense of humour and always laughed at my bad jokes.”

Warwick reflected on the unwavering support his wife offered throughout his career.

“With her by my side, I was sure I could achieve anything, it was like having a super-power,” Davis said.

“Without Sammy, there would have been no Tenable quiz show, no Willow series. No Idiot Abroad Series 3.

“She was passionate about helping people, without judgment. She had time for everyone and a genuine listening ear.”

Warwick and Samantha crossed paths for the first time on the set of the film Willow back in 1988, when they were just 17 and 16 years old, respectively. Three years later, in 1991, they exchanged vows and eventually became parents to Harrison and Annabelle.

Samantha achieved fame with her roles in Through the Dragon’s Eye, ShortFellas, and Honky Sausages. Together with Warwick, she co-founded Little People UK, a charity aimed at assisting individuals with dwarfism and their families.
