What type of tea to drink for different ailments

Share:

Most people love a good cup of tea, at any time of the day. It can give you a lift when you’re feeling tired or down, help ease a headache, calm you down, and it just tastes really darn good. But there are so many different varieties of tea out there, and they all have different properties that can help in a variety of ways. Try the following teas for their listed purposes, and see if they help.

1. Peppermint tea for an upset stomach

Peppermint tea can help settle the stomach by calming the muscles and promoting digestion by increasing bile production, so it’s a good one to try if you’ve eaten a bit more than you should have. The oils in the tea are also cooling, and the vapours produced can also help relieve congestion.

2. Ginger tea for nausea

Ginger has been long known to be a great reliever of nausea. Whether it’s fresh ginger, a lolly, ginger ale, ginger beer, or ginger tea, if you’re feeling a little green, it’s a great idea to brew a nice hot cup of ginger tea.

3. Camomile tea for sleep

A lot of people, especially as they get older suffer from sleeplessness and insomnia. We all know that we should steer clear of caffeine when we’re wanting to sleep, so black teas are out later in the day. Try camomile tea before bed, as many people find it helps them to relax, which is a big part of getting to the point of falling asleep.

4. Licorice tea if you’re craving something sweet

If you have a sweet tooth but you’re trying to be good and not overindulge in sugary foods, a cup of licorice tea can help tide you over. It’s naturally sweet, so you can have the sweet taste without the calories of sugar.

5. Black tea if you need a pick-me-up

If you, like most people, hit an energy slump mid-afternoon, a nice cup of black tea is your friend. It contains caffeine, which will give you a temporary energy boost. A cup of sweet black tea can also help to ease a headache! Just be careful not to drink it too late in the day, otherwise you may have trouble getting to sleep later.

6. Passionflower tea if you’re worked up or jittery

Passionflower tea is another one that has a calming effect, making it an excellent choice if you’re suffering from a mild anxiety or just need to calm down. It can also help you to settle down to sleep.
