Ten awesome ways to clean using just bicarb, lemon and vinegar

Share:
Bicarb, vinegar and a bit of elbow grease goes a long way.

Want to completely clean your house with natural products? Many people want to stop using chemicals around their home, so why not use just three easy-to-buy ingredients to make effective, all-natural cleaning products?

Try these 10  cleaning recipes to get your house spick and span.

1. Clean a smelly or clogged drain

This is an easy fix. Simply add a cup of bicarb soda to any drain and let it sit for an hour. Then, boil two cups of vinegar and pour it down the drain. Run hot water and your drain will no longer smell. Easy!

2. Degrease your oven

Clean your oven by dusting the inside with a light coat of bicarb soda. Spray vinegar with lemon juice over the top of the bicard until it begins to fizz. Leave the solution in for at least four hours and then wipe with a damp cloth.

3. Clean gunk off your iron

Simply take some paper towel and drench it in vinegar. Place on countertop and lay the cool iron over it. After five minutes, take it off and wipe the bottom of the iron. Some of the gunk will loosen but once you have gotten off as much as you can with just the vinegar, get a separate paper towel and dip in mixture of water and bicarb soda. Run the iron over the several times.

4. Steam-clean your microwave

Mix half a cup of white distilled vinegar, half a cup of water and the juice of half a lemon in a microwave-safe bowl. Bring to a boil inside the microwave for a couple of minutes – the baked-on food will be loosened, and odours will disappear. Wipe the inside of the microwave clean.

5. All-purpose cleaner recipe

Forget those expensive cleaners! Mix 3 parts water, 1 part vinegar, 1-2 tsp lemon juice and 5-7 drops of lemon essential oil, add to spray bottle and fill remaining amount with hot water. Use this on your benchtops, sinks – anywhere you need it!

6. Bathtub and tile cleaner

Take a jar or spray bottle and combine:

  • 1 ½ cups of bicarb soda
  • ½ cup of warm water
  • ½ cup of liquid soap
  • 2 tablespoons of white distilled vinegar

Shake it up before spraying and scrubbing the tub. You can also add a little lemon juice to the mixture to help to eat away grime.

7. Stove-top cleaner

Juice half a lemon into a spray bottle filled with vinegar to cut grease. To lift out burnt bits, make a bicarb soda paste with a bit of water and let sit for 30 minutes, then wipe clean.

8. Deodorise cutting boards

Clean stains and germs off your cutting board by squeezing a lemon on the board and allowing it to sit for 30 minutes. Scrub clean with a cloth soaked in vinegar.

9. Streak-free mirrors

Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar, diluted 1:1 with water and a squeeze of lemon.

10. Lift odours from mattress

To deodorise urine or vomit stains, sprinkle your mattress with bicarb soda, leave for 30 minutes, then vacuum. For fresh, wet stains, scrub with white vinegar and rinse with clean water.
