Patti Newton shares sweet birthday tribute to Bert

Share:
Patti has taken to social media to wish Bert a happy birthday.

They’re arguably one of Australia’s most-loved couples, and it looks like there’s still plenty of love between Patti and her husband, Bert Newton.

The beloved Australian personality shared an adorable family snap with the caption: “Had a wonderful birthday dinner At Kokos Crown with the family. @crownresorts we all just loved it.” The sweet image shows Bert cutting a cake with grandchildren Sam, 10, Eva, 9, Lola, 6, and Monty, 2 and wife Patti.

Fans were quick to comment, with one writing, “Lovely to see you well and happy Bert, beautiful family Happy 80th Birthday”.

Another added: “Absolutely gorgeous Patti ! Many happy returns to our dearest Bert!”

Bert recently told the Herald Sun“They say that life begins at 40. If that is the case I have had 40 pretty good years up until 80. It is a good feeling and it is particularly nice to be able to share it with the grandkids.

“I am so thrilled that I am here with them. One realises that at 80 years of age there is not too much chance of being at their 21st or whatever, but the important thing is they are with us to celebrate. It is wonderful to celebrate the milestone with the people I love.”

The couple have been married for 43 years and together, they have two children, Matthew and Lauren, and four grandchildren from Lauren. And soon there will be another grandchild, with Lauren expecting her fifth child in December. They’ve been devoted grandparents, with Patti frequently sharing photos of the energetic little tykes on her Instagram account.

Bert was recently forced to apologise for his controversial comments at the Logies, after dividing audiences with a speech he made when he took to the stage to present an award. He referred to himself as an “old poof” and made jokes many thought were offensive to the late Graham Kennedy.

Newton addressed the comments speaking to reporters at Melbourne Airport recently, 9News reported.

“Well, I thought it went very well until after the show when I looked at comments on social media,” he said. “I never set out to offend anybody, and I think it’s well known in the industry that I don’t prepare material… I just go for it.”
