Share:

65 year old, Hey Dad! Sitcom star, Robert Hughes has been found guilty of nine alleged child molestation and sex offences by a 12-person jury this afternoon. But the jury has retired without sentencing for the day.

This marks the final stage of what has already been a marathon seven-week hearing including over 20 witnesses, hundreds of pages of documents and a week of closing submissions by the various parties.

The case has been lead by Crown Prosecutor, Gina O’Rourke, who has built her case on the testimonies of five alleged victims who were aged between six and 15 years old when the alleged assaults happened between 1983 and 1990.

11 alleged events have been claimed against Hughes including an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old, molestation of a young girl at a local park and at Manly beach and several cases of indecent exposure on the set of Hey Dad have been used as evidence in the trial.

The Sydney Morning Herald also reported that in the last two weeks the 65-year-old actor has finally taken to the stand denying the allegations and defending his actions. He also allegedly denied all of the surrounding circumstances of each of the charges. His defacto partner, Robyn Gardiner and his daughter Jessica Hughes have supported him the whole way through the trial.

Before coming to the conclusion, the jury was allegedly instructed to consider each of the 11 charges separately, relying only on the evidence presented to them. They came to the conclusion that Mr. Hughes was guilty of seven counts of indecent assault of a persona under the age of 16 and two counts of sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16.
