Madonna hits out at critics who say she needs to dress age appropriately

Share:

Madonna hit the red carpet at the annual Met Gala earlier this week in one of her most revealing outfits yet.

She drew side-longed looks when she rocked up with both her bosoms and buttocks hanging out for the world to see.

The 57-year-old singer was ready to show to the world what her mumma gave her with a fitted corset and a sheer lace overlay making up the majority of her outfit.

She used black duct tape to cover her nipples and wrapped long strands of it around her legs.

Photos of her outfit quickly made their way around the internet with many people reacting in shock and calling for her to “dress her age”.

Now though, Madonna has hit back accusing her critics of a double-standard and saying there is no age limit when it comes to fashion.

In an Instagram post, the mother-of-four said her outfit was both a fashion and political statement and said that she wasn’t going to stop dressing like that anytime time soon.

“My dress at the Met Ball was a political statement as well as a fashion statement. The fact that people actually believe a woman is not allowed to express her sexuality and be adventurous past a certain age is proof that we still live in an age-ist and sexist society,” she said.

“I have never thought in a limited way and I’m not going to start.”

Many fans commented on the post showing their support for the singer and saying she was spot on.

Others though were not so supportive.

“Really.. showing part of your body would make a difference? How about your brain?” questioned one commenter.

The topic has divided many, particularly women, with some saying they don’t feel comfortable dressing ‘young’ anymore and find it strange when older women wear revealing clothes.

Others though have said they are happy to see an older woman showing the world that you can still make bold fashion choices over 50 years old.

What do you think about Madonna’s statement?

Is she too old to wear something like this? Do you find yourself dressing more conservatively as you age?
