Fans have been given their first glimpse at Aussie actress Nicole Kidman as the iconic Lucille Ball in the new trailer for the upcoming biopic Being the Ricardos.
Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin the film explores the relationship of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez during a week of production on the I Love Lucy show.
The newly released trailer include’s Kidman’s voiceover to some of Ball’s most iconic television moments including the classic grape stomping scene.
In a recent interview with Chris Rock for Variety‘s Actors on Actors, Kidman said the movie is not a remake of the I Love Lucy show but explores the behind-the-scenes relationship of the two leading stars.
“Everyone thinks we’re remaking the “I Love Lucy” show, and it’s so not that. It’s about Lucy and Desi and their relationship and their marriage. It’s very deep, actually,” she said.
“She was a trailblazer. She formed her production company. Desi was Cuban, and she had to fight to get him on the show. They had just so many things in their marriage that are so relevant today, and what she was also dealing with in terms of everything that artists deal with.”
Kidman took to Instagram to post the teaser of the film for her fans alongside the caption, “Here’s a sneak peek at #BeingTheRicardos, on @amazonprimevideo worldwide December 21 xx.”
Fans of Kidman and Lucille Ball were quick to heap praise on the new footage.
“Looks incredible!! No one could do that voice better than Nicole!! Brilliant, can’t wait.”
“Can’t wait!!! I know you’ll be great in it!”
“Can’t wait to see this movie, I loved the I Love Lucy Show growing up.”
