Ad for Bourke Street Mall in the 80s resurfaces

Apr 03, 2016

Whether you’re a Victorian or not, you’ll look back on this advertisement for Bourke Street Mall in the early 1980s and smile today knowing it is the perfect birds-eye view of the era.  It has resurfaced in the media, with everyone exclaiming how many memories it is bringing back of below the knee skirts and very short shorts; flares and hip curls.

It was a time when shopping crowds weren’t as large, and when tight perms reigned on women and even tighter pants stretched on men.

This advertising campaign was used to promote the “International Shopping Scene: The Walk” or Bourke Street Mall.

“There’s a touch of Paris, the flavour of Italy and a flash of The Orient,” says the very familiar voiceover.
