Christine is back with her classic WPMO article! Do you share her annoyances?

1. I am extremely pissed off with Telstra. When I have to deal with them I can rarely get a straight answer! They are full of double talk. Recently I took a call from them on Mum’s home phone. They told me that all the home phone lines in this area are too old and have to go and they are not going to be replaced and unless Mum agrees to her home phone running off a modem connected to the NBN mobile network, it will be disconnected within 3 months.

Mum really has no choice but to agree and with the new set up when the NBN goes down, so will the phone and here is the kicker: when the power goes out so will the phone. The woman I was speaking to told me they are advising all priority assistance customers like Mum to buy a medi alert for around their necks (at their own cost of course) so if they fall they can just press a button for help. Then she suggested Mum should start using a mobile phone. They don’t care that a home phone is a comfort to older folk, they don’t care if they are deaf because Mum is as deaf as a post and the home phone is old but it is a proper phone for the deaf and works well. But now I have been told it will not be able to work from the modem! Again Mum will have no choice but to agree to a regular phone and struggle to hear. To me it’s just another case of a lot of the old people being left behind.

2. I was thinking about this blog and wondering if the day ahead would bring anything to piss me off just so I could add to it. Then the Woolworths delivery man turned up with my groceries. That was OK; he was nice enough. I remembered I had ordered eight brussels sprouts for Mum’s lunch – I only ever get that many when she wants them! Nobody else eats them. I started unpacking and pulled out eight 500g packs of brussels sprouts! I was so pissed off. And to add insult I saw on the invoice they had charged me $47.84. Surely a degree of intelligence is required when packing people’s shopping after all who in their right mind would buy 4 kilos of brussels sprouts? They taste like…

I immediately sent an email to Woolworths mentioning my abundant supply of brussels sprouts. I also may have mentioned my $47.84 they took from my bank account and if they did not refund I would shop elsewhere. Now I had the dilemma of finding homes for over 100 little green leafy vegetables! Obviously I didn’t want to chuck them so I gave the two neighbours either side of me a packet each and as I was going back to my yard an old couple were walking past the front yard. They were staring at me, probably because I still had my “Oscar The Grouch” pyjamas on with bed hair that you couldn’t jump over. I have no doubt they were having a giggle, luckily I didn’t care. I remained delightful and said G’day, I asked them if they would like a gift. I handed them a container full and told them I was the brussels sprout fairy and I was spreading the delightful little fart propellers far and wide. They thanked me and took a 500 gram pack. Three down, five to go, does anybody want some?

24 hours after I sent Woolworths the email I got a reply. They have agreed to refund me my $47.84. Yay…I am no longer pissed off, but rest assured something will piss me off soon enough.

Get a life or you’ll die of a heart attack. I agree with yr Telstra comments. It is the pits when you have to deal with them, talking to someone in Timbuktu, hardly abel to understand, but again such is life.

  2. Desley

Your Woolworths rant made me cheer up no end ! As for Telstra, since they have gone offshore you cannot get any sense out of them at all. Barely able to find a human to talk to, let alone one who you can understand or who knows what they are talking about. Good luck I say.

The NBN is not Telstra. Once NBN is connected in an area, you have 18 months to change over from your old telephone line provided by Telstra to your new NBN service. Letters would have been sent to notify you tha this would happen. Telstra were actually doing you a good service by notifying you that this would happen before you were cut off.

    • Claire

My thoughts exactly Adam. All very well having a go at Telstra…..they are a large target but in this case it was ill incormed

  4. Can’t wait for the NBN come through, then I can stop the rats from chewing the copper wires on my ADSL line, and that reminds me I must put the Brussel Sprouts on the simmer with black pepper and margarine for lunch.LOL

  5. we were told the same thing, connect to NBN cos our old system would be switched off in 3 months

this foul mouth tired whinger is back. WHAT ANNOYS ME is an acceptable heading.. YOU made the mistake re the brussels sprouts by ordering the packs by eight. the packer was packing what was ordered. solutions read the order form before confirming. read what is for sale an in what packaging. How would anyone know you only want 8 little sprout heads, you may have been preparing a special dish for the homeless or needy. NBN is the best thing we in Carlton have been given, luckily it was before TurnBULL interfered. what a bit of nonsense the comment is home phone is a comfort to older folk. I think the writer is scared mom may be more able to adapt than she. Anyway wash your mouth with soap and start thinking some people may be offended by the title and more importantly young children who just might read this will think such language is acceptable

    • Marg

      What nonsense.

    • Christine Meehan

Foul Mouthed Really…The title is decided by S,A.S, not me..and What Pisses Me Off is Australian Slang..I did not make a mistake regarding my order, loose amounts are totally acceptable,if you saw the rest of my order EVEN YOU would have realised putting 8 packs in… was ridiculous.. Few people over 90 are computer literate, that is why the home phone is a comfort to them as a means of communication…You do realize young children hear a lot worse than What Pisses Me Off in the schoolyard. If you dont like what I write…DON’T READ IT,that way you can keep your acidic small minded comments to yourself…Have a nice night

      • Kevin Chamberlain

        Well said!!!!! With you.

    • Chris

To Colin, your’e an idiot and obviously don’t have any elderly parents. Home phones and bank books are an older persons security especially if they have dementia. What young person would be reading this anyway. What pisses me off is you.

  7. If there was a Logie for Appalling Customer Service Telstra would win every year. The glib, rote responses their poor call centre staff are trained in are so frustrating. I find myself feeling quite queasy if I have to call them. I try to report faults by email and tick the box for email responses (which is almost always ignored so why do they ask) to reduce the stress of interactions with Telstra. I feel that as a rural dweller I am a hostage to the lack of service by any other providers.

My copper line was ripped up by Telstra, more than 5 years ago because the copper had degraded. No choice offered, over to fixed mobile at huge increase in cost. So what happens to NBN? Oh no, copper is beaut, do not need that nasty expensive fibre right to the premise, do we. I have since moved but am feeling sad for all the people who have and are going to be shoved aside by the utter arrogance of Telstra and the anti fibre yobbos. And to see Australia slipping down to second or third world communication effectiveness rating. After all it is 2016.

  9. Oh! I so feel your Telstra pain.I have just spent every day for the past week on the phone ,trying to get them to sort out the problem, their technician caused.14 times I have been told “I understand your frustration “.14 times I have been told ” I am just going to put you on hold ,for a moment.” and the best one is I will call you back ” ,but they never do .Grrrrr..I expect I will spend every day this week on the phone …..and don’t expect a solution.

  10. Well what are we not Pissed off with ? Banks, Insurance Companies, Government, The Tax Office,Power Companies,Gas Companies,Refugees,Church, Clubs,The idiot that cuts us off, Health servises,Petrol prices etc.etc.etc.!!!!
My advice is keep you’re pissed off to a manageable daily level; coz there is always tomorrow Lol

  11. There are so many things to be pissed off in the world today it would take me about too much time out of my life to write them all down. Just go with the flow, take some of ‘”mothers little helpers”, lie down and relax.
