You could own part of The Queen’s history, but it’s a big strange

It would have been incredible to have been at the wedding of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in 1947, but now, for a tidy price, you could have a taste of what it was like.

A piece of cake from the royal wedding cake is set to go to auction at Hansons Auctioneers in Etwall, South Derbyshire. The slice of cake has been kept for 70 years in a gift box adorned with wedding bells and the inscription, “Presented to Mr C. Dickman by Princess Elizabeth, Nov 20th 1947”.

Hansons Auctioneer Jim Spencer told The Burton Mail, “It’s undeniably a very sweet thing. As soon as I saw it I thought ‘crumbs, what a piece of history!’ I expect it to make a tasty price at auction. There’s no Best Before date here, it can only improve with age in terms of historic importance and value.” Very PUNny, Mr Spencer.

The cake is set to fetch between £100 to £150 when it goes on sale today.
