White House picture fail

Someone's getting fired.

Uh-oh.

Talk about a pic caption fail if ever there was one.

The name of the gay husband of Luxembourg’s openly homosexual Prime Minister was originally omitted from an official photo of Melania Trump posing with Nato leaders’ spouses during last week’s summit.

The White House soon amended the caption after being called out on social media.

The original caption listed Melania and the eight other first ladies in attendance but neglected to name Gauthier Destenay, Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel’s husband.

Bettell is currently the only openly gay serving world leader.

During the ten hours that the offending caption remained, many took to social media and slammed the omission as “embarrassing” and “disrespectful”.

White House staff must have been scrambling once they realised their error and quickly updated the caption to include Destenay’s name.

The original caption read: “First Lady Melania Trump poses with Belgium’s Queen Mathilde, center, and other spouses of NATO leaders: First Lady Emine Erdogan of Turkey; Iceland’s Thora Margret Baldvinsdottir; the First Lady of France Brigitte Trogneux; First Lady Melania Trump; Slovenia’s Mojca Stropnik; Bulgaria’s Desislava Radeva; Belgium’s Amelie Derbaudrenghien, and Norway’s Ingrid Schulerud, during their visit Thursday, May 25, 2917 (sic), at the Royal Palace in Brussels. The photo was posted to Facebook along with a collection of images from the Trump’s nine-day international tour.

US President Trump has previously stated he was “fine” with legislation passed during the Obama administration allowing couples of the same sex to marry.

However, Vice President Mike Pence is known to have strong views in opposition to same-sex marriage.

Pence previously drew links between marriage law reform and “societal collapse” during a 2006 speech as head of the Republican Study Committee.

In the speech, Pence claimed refusing to allow gays to marry was not discrimination but an upholding of an idea “ordained by God”.

Trump’s nine-day overseas sojourn ended with an address to US troops in a campaign-style rally in which he declared the tour a “home run”.

While Melania has twice been seen swatting her husband’s hand away when he tried to hold hers during the trip, she praised his efforts in her introduction to the troops.

“My husband worked very hard on this trip and I am very proud of him,” she told reporters.

Do you think this is embarrassing and ignorant or just a mistake?
