What are you goanna do when faced with wildlife?

A lace monitor in the wild; what would you do if you came face to face with one?

You can’t get much more Australian than that.

A large goanna thought it would join diners at a winery restaurant in New South Wales, reports ABC News.

But when a customer pointed it out to Samia Lila she grabbed it by the tail and dragged it back outside before it could join the guests enjoying their meals.

The young waitress, on a working holiday from France, thought the animal was a big dog at first.

“Every time he tried to reach me, I just lift him up. He’s quite heavy,” Ms Lila told ABC News.

“I just figured if I do this, he’s never going to reach my hand, and I was just focussed on his mouth.”

Ms Lila told ABC she had never seen a goanna until four days earlier, while working in the vineyard.

“I like reptiles, I think he is a really beautiful creature [and] I didn’t want to hurt him,” she said.

“It was interesting for me. I would never see something like this in France.

Have you had a close encounter with a reptile like this one?
