TV series to respect wishes of Michael Jackson’s family

You might have read earlier this week about Michael Jackson’s family criticising a new TV series that has a white actor portraying the singer?

The trailer for the series Urban Myths set social media abuzz, and caused some of Jackson’s family including his daughter Paris and nephew TJ to slam the show.

On Twitter, Paris said she was “outraged” and “offended”.

“I’m so incredibly offended by it, as i’m sure plenty of people are as well, and it honestly makes me want to vomit,” she tweeted.

“It angers me to see how obviously intentional it was for them to be this insulting, not just towards my father, but my godmother liz as well.

“Where is the respect? they worked through blood sweat and tears for ages to create such profound and remarkable legacies. shameful portrayal.

“He made a point of it plenty of times to express his pride in his roots. He would never have wanted this.”

Well, now Sky, who was due to broadcast the show has responded to the Jackson family – and they have agreed to follow the family’s wishes.

“We have taken the decision not to broadcast Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon, a half hour episode from the Sky Arts Urban Myths series, in light of the concerns expressed by Michael Jackson’s immediate family,” Sky said in a statement.

“We set out to take a light-hearted look at reportedly true events and never intended to cause any offence. Joseph Fiennes fully supports our decision.”

And the response from social media has again be strong, with the family weighing in as well.

“i’m surprised the family’s feelings were actually taken into consideration for once, we all really do appreciate it more than y’all know.” Paris wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile her cousin TJ, son of Tito Jackson, thanked Jackson fans for their support on Twitter.

“Thank you to everyone who made their voices heard,” he wrote.

“As I said it wasn’t comedy, it was mockery with no taste. A great victory for his legacy!”

The half an hour episode of the show focused on a rumoured car trip said to have been taken by Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando on 9/11.

The rest of the shows episodes, which feature a number of celebrity characters including Adolf Hitler, will g ahead as planned.

It’s not very often you see a family’s wishes taken into consideration this way!
