Trump tweet causes controversy

When the words “Trump” and “Tweet” come together in a sentence many think of the tweets that the new President might send out on the popular social media platform.

This time the controversial tweet wasn’t made by him, or about him, but has left one writer’s job in serious doubt. While making fun of President Trump on the US comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live is considered fair play because of who he is; writer Kate Rich has dropped herself in hot water by targeting the President’s 10-year-old son Barron.

The tweet, which of course has already been deleted, made light of school shootings as Rich wrote: “Barron will be this country’s first home-school shooter”. While it has been deleted, it was still seen by thousands of people that pointed out the subject matter shouldn’t be made light of.

Former First Child, Chelsea Clinton also tweeted out her support of Barron. Saying he “deserves the chance every child does-to be a kid”. The backlash did force Rich to remove the tweet and post an apology stating “I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I’m so sorry.”

It might have been too little too late as SNL, and network NBC bosses have suspended Rich for the tweet.

Many have pointed out that there has been a lot of memes and jokes made about Barron since he made his first public appearance with many others pointing out that he’s 10 and should be off limits like the Obama girls were during their father’s Presidency.
