Trump reveals his biggest surprise about being president

Donald Trump thought being the president of the United States “would be easier” than his old life as a real estate mogul.

One hundred days since taking office, the new president talked to Reuters about his new life, including his surprise that leading the world’s economic powerhouse was harder than he expected.

“I loved my previous life. I had so many things going,” Trump told Reuters. “This is more work than in my previous life. I thought it would be easier.”

Trump told the news agency that although he was used to having little privacy as a high-profile businessman, he’d gone into his own “little cocoon” as president because his huge security operation meant that he “really can’t go anywhere”.

He said he was surprised that he had even less privacy in his new role, and that he missed being behind the wheel, because now he was driven everywhere by his security agents.

It’s been a torrid first five months in the White House for Trump, in which he’s struggled to get laws limiting Muslim migration to the US approved by the courts and has been faced with a conflict with the Russian president Vladimir Putin over military action in Syria.

Right now, Trump is dealing with an increasingly aggressive North Korea – he told Reuters on Thursday that “major, major conflict” with the rogue nation was a possibility – while balancing a delicate relationship with China, from whom he needs cooperation on regarding North Korea.

On Friday, a United Nations Security Council meeting on North Korea saw the US push China to reign in its neighbour, while China and Russia pushed back, with Russia saying that the use of force against North Korea would be unacceptable.

What do you think of Donald Trump’s revelations about his first 100 days in office?
