Donald Trump has given an Aussie author a plug most writers can only dream of.
The US president paused overnight in the middle of a storm of tweets criticising the Democrats to urge his 25.9 million Twitter followers to buy Nick Adams’ book Green Card Warrior.

The book, which is subtitled ‘My Quest for Legal Immigration in an Illegals’ System, was released last November.
It tells of Adams’ attempt to obtain a sought-after Green Card that would allow him to become a US resident and, according to its publicity blurb on Amazon, reveals how “the Obama Administration has broken new ground in its intimidation and harassment of political opponents, now using its State Department to screen and select immigrants based on their politics.”
The author, who has since received a Green Card, says he was named an “honorary Texan” by Republican former governor Rick Perry and when Trump’s travel ban was announced, Adams posted on Facebook that “whenever I travel, I always let it be known I am a Texan. I wasn’t born there, but I damn sure came as quick as I could!”
Adams attended the University of Sydney and claims to still hold the record as the youngest deputy mayor in Australian history, a record he set in 2005 when he was elected deputy mayor of Ashfield in Sydney.
As Ashfield’s Liberal deputy mayor, Adams came to national attention when he campaigned to exterminate the area’s pigeons to manage the risk of bird flu. It’s not clear from his site when he moved to the US but the publicity blurb for Green Card Warrior described him as having “charisma, energy and a promising TV career” at the time he was seeking US residency.
More recently, the ambitious 33-year-old has appeared on TV shows in the US, including a number of Fox News outlets, as a conservative pundit, and set up the Foundation for Liberty and American Greatness, an organisation that’s “dedicated to promoting American exceptionalism and combating anti-Americanism worldwide”.
On his personal site, Adams says he intends to “secure the American Dream for another 200 years at least.”
Trump is known to admire Australia’s immigration system. In his address to Congress on Tuesday in the US he pointed to the merit-based immigration system in place in Australia and Canada, saying ““It is a basic principle that those seeking to enter a country ought to be able to support themselves financially.”
