There’s some good news for Malcolm Turnbull

Malcolm Turnbull has been given a slight boost in the latest Newspoll.

If you follow Australian politics, then you’d know that Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and the Coalition Government have been struggling in the polls for the past few months.

But the latest Newspoll, released today by The Australian, has given some good news to the government.

In the last Newspoll three weeks ago, the Coalition were trailing Labor on a two-party preferred basis 53 to 47.

But today’s poll has shown a better result, with the Coalition gaining 1% to shift it to 52-48.

And Turnbull himself has seen a boost in his approval rating, jumping up by 1% to 42% – still leading Opposition Leader Bill Shorten by 9%.

However net satisfaction with Turnbull is still at -20%, albeit up slightly from -22%.

The change in figures comes off the back of Turnbull’s new immigration policies.

But the moves have failed to change the Coalition’s primary vote, which remains at just 36%. Labor’s has fallen down to 35%, the Greens fell to 9% and One Nation remained stable at 10%.

The Newspoll shows that if an election were held tomorrow, the Coalition would lose and Bill Shorten would be the next Prime Minister.

So, what do you think? Who would you vote for if an election was held tomorrow?
