The Duchess of Cambridge is going to have a new family member!

Pippa Middleton is swapping her famous royal bridesmaid’s dress for a wedding gown after her wealthy hedge fund manager boyfriend popped the question.

The 32-year-old sister of the Duchess of Cambridge is engaged to James Matthews, 40, the Daily Mail reports. When Duchess Kate married Prince William at Westminster Abbey in 2011, Pippa made headlines in her figure-hugging Alexander McQueen bridesmaid’s dress.

James reportedly got down on one knee and proposed with a diamond ring while the couple were out walking in the Lake District in England’s north last Saturday.

“And within a moment she said ‘yes’ and suddenly Britain’s most eligible young woman was off the market,” wrote theMail’s veteran royal reporter Richard Kay, who was a confidante of Princess Diana. The surprise proposal was said to have delighted Kate, William and the sisters’ parents, Carole and Mike.

While Pippa herself hasn’t confirmed the news, just hours before details of her engagement surfaced, she was photographed keeping her left hand hidden from view at a charity fundraiser in London.

‘Many people will say what a lucky guy James is for landing Pippa,’ says a close friend, ‘I would say she’s the lucky one. He’s one hell of a catch.’

Last night a close friend of the couple told the Daily Mail: ‘I can confirm that Pippa and James are engaged. They are saying nothing more at this stage.’
