Tara Brown and crew detained in Lebanon

Esteemed 60 Minutes journalist Tara Brown is currently being detained in Lebanon with her crew.

Tara is in Lebanon filming a story about the recovery of two Australian children who were taken there by their Lebanese father.

Tara, her producer Steven Rice and two camera operators were detained overnight in Beirut.

Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop confirmed the government was seeking information on the incident.

“I confirm that DFAT has been in contact with Channel 9 with regard to reports that an Australian TV crew has been detained in Lebanon,” she said.

“We are urgently seeking to confirm the crew’s whereabouts and welfare, and have offered all appropriate consular assistance”.

The children at the centre of the story Tara is covering are Lahala, 5, and Noah, 2, who were taken to Lebanon for a holiday by their father, who has since refused to return them home to their mother Sally Faulkner in Brisbane.

60 Minutes executive producer Kirsty Thompson said the team was working with authorities to resolve the situation.
